About Thomas Mendez
What I love most about practicing law is helping clients gain peace of mind. Whether it is planning for the future, dealing with an unexpected event, or navigating a complicated legal situation, I enjoy finding solutions that improve people’s lives and give them peace.
Before moving into private practice, I worked as an attorney at the Texas Children’s Hospital Medical-Legal Partnership, where I collaborated with medical staff to assist patients and families with various legal matters including guardianships, estate planning, and real estate matters. In this role, I worked closely with medical teams and social workers, which gave me a much more holistic view of legal situations, recognizing how legal solutions fit into the broader fabric of people’s lives. I try to bring that well-rounded perspective to my daily practice. I also worked in real estate investing prior to law school. I use that experience to think through matters with clients not just from a legal lens, but also from a practical and business perspective, and I think my clients really appreciate that.
My first job out of law school was at a non-profit that represented low-wage workers whose employers had failed to pay them overtime or refused to pay them at all. I have also worked at law firms that represent sophisticated clients with large businesses. I have even helped advise small municipalities on discreet legal matters. These experiences are diverse and varied — they inform my perspective and help me create innovative solutions for my clients.
As a former Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, I enjoy working with clients both domestically and internationally. I enjoy cross-cultural exchanges and love to travel and learn about new people and places. To whom much is given, much is expected – I believe in giving back to the community through volunteering and handling pro bono cases for folks who would otherwise be unable to afford legal services. In my career, I have enjoyed advising non-profits, serving on non-profit boards, and looking for other ways to pay it forward.
In my personal time, I love spending time with my beautiful wife, Sarah, and our three exuberant children. We enjoy participating and volunteering at our church, St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church where Sarah and I were married.
Why Pax?
Pax is “peace” in Latin. As the founding attorney at Pax Law, PLLC, my desire is to create a law firm that will bring peace of mind to all my clients. Whether it is estate planning, a real estate dispute, forming your first (or fifth) business, or probating your loved one’s estate, I want you to enjoy the experience of working with me and my firm and to gain some peace, knowing that I am in your corner. I want to give my clients peace from not only helping with a particular legal issue, but also listening to and understanding my clients, their needs, and wishes beyond the particular matter that brought them here. Thank you for coming here to learn more about my firm, and I hope that you will trust Pax to help you.
